Wanted: Two tenure-track English teachers

Number of positions: Two tenure-track teachers
- Applicants must have a master’s degree (or above) and excel in teaching English. Applicants should be enthusiastic about teaching, and be able to actively participate in team work. In their cover letter, foreign applicants should include a statement regarding their level of Chinese language proficiency (speaking, reading, listening, and writing).
- Applicants must have the ability to teach in English and must have college-level teaching experience. Native speakers are preferred.
- Applicants should be able to either:
- teach English for writing, English for presentations, and other courses that aim to improve academic English skills to students in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, medicine); or
- teach courses in the medical humanities.
- Applicants who have published in excellent domestic and/or international journals will be preferred.
- Applicants with prior experience working in language centers or with other relevant administrative experience will be preferred.

Application materials should be submitted electronically as one PDF file with a table of contents.
The file name should begin with the applicant’s name as in the following example: Smith John Application for Full-time Tenure-track Teaching Position. Note: Recommendation letters should be sent separately.
- A photocopy of the applicant’s diploma. If the diploma is from a foreign university, it must be notarized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (or equivalent) in the country in which the foreign university is located. This photocopy should be included in the application if possible, and successful applicants must provide it before their appointment is confirmed. For applicants who have just recently graduated and have not yet obtained a diploma, the application must include official proof from the applicant’s university that the applicant has graduated.
- Personal resume (including a copy of any relevant certifications)
- List of major publications since February 2014, additional publications from before February 2014, and any relevant additional information regarding the applicant’s academic works.
- A statement of teaching philosophy: a brief (one page) description, in English, of the applicant’s approach to teaching.
- Syllabi for three courses that the applicant would teach at NYMU if hired. Two courses that focus on enhancing students’ English language skills; and one course in the applicant’s area of research (i.e., one course in the humanities, broadly construed), which is to be taught in English. - Optional: Teaching evaluations from all of the courses that the applicant has taught over the past two years.
- Two recommendation letters. Letters should be no more than one year old, and should be sent via email by the recommender. In the subject line of the email, please have the recommender write: Recommendation Letter for OOO (example: Smith John) Application for NYMU ECHSS: English Tenure-track

- The ECHSS at NYMU is required to collect personal information from application materials for “personnel recruitment” for the purpose of reviewing, evaluating, and making necessary contacts for recruitment during the recruitment period and within the region. Applicants are permitted to contact Ms. Jennifer Uang to request access to, supplement, and/or correct personal information; request a copy of personal information; request that personal information not be collected, processed, and/or used; request that personal information be deleted; and exercise other rights. If an applicant’s information is not fully provided, the university will not be able to complete the recruitment process.

- After the selection committee has evaluated the applications, a number of applicants will be invited to interview and deliver a teaching demo at the university. The selection committee will rank applicants based on teaching ability and research potential, and on the current needs of the ECHSS.
- The selection committee may select and rank up to six The top two applicants will move on to the next stage in the application process, while the bottom four applicants will be waitlisted. In the event that there are no qualified applicants, the selection committee will not rank any applicants.
